Verizon & Disney collab to bring charitable wishes

Verizon has teamed up with Disney to create a charitable holiday-themed AR experience that promotes the movie studio’s new film Wish.

Verizon has created a “Wish on a StAR” themed experience in which consumers can give Toys for Tots to children in need. The effort supports Verizon’s “Holiday Every Day” concept which is focused on giving. 

We approached this holiday season with the intention of not only showcasing Verizon’s incredible deals through our ‘Holiday Every Day’ campaign, but also giving our customers a platform to give back to their local community,” said Kristin McHugh, SVP of marketing and creative at Verizon. “There was natural synergy between our strategy and our partners at Disney with their upcoming movie Wish, so we decided to turn children’s wishes into reality with the help of Toys for Tots.” 

“Our ‘Wish on a StAR’ augmented reality experience allows consumers to celebrate the spirit of the holidays all season long by doing something special for their neighbors through a combination of Verizon 5G technology, a little Disney magic, and philanthropy,” she continued.

Consumers can access the web-based AR experience through a QR code or link from their phone and select their location. Next they can point their phone towards the sky and a series of stars will pop up that represent their nearest Toys for Tots chapter. By tapping on one of these stars, a user can make a donation directly to a local Toys for Tots chapter.

“We wanted to bring our customers closer to their communities and one another through a charitable campaign that combines the spirit of the holiday season with the interactive entertainment and experiences offered by Verizon,” McHugh said.

Verizon and Disney have and ongoing relationship and have done many collaborations in the past. 

“We have a longstanding relationship with Disney that allows us to connect our customers to their favorite content from ESPN to Disney+,” added McHugh. “Our partnership with Disney provides additional value to our existing customers through our myPlan Disney perk and expands our reach to fans who want to experience the magic of Disney all in one place, for less.”
